One of the most highly anticipated video games on the way is The Elder Scrolls VI, alongside the likes of Grand Theft Auto VI, of course.
However, unlike GTA VI which we know is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S (and hopefully PC), the future of Bethesda’s fantasy RPG, The Elder Scrolls VI has some shred of doubt surrounding it. We know for a fact that the next Elder Scrolls game is coming to PC and Xbox, we just don't know when.
Check out The Elder Scrolls VI teaser trailer below!
The Elder Scrolls VI was announced during E3 2018 and since that time, we’ve seen or heard very little about the game, other than it’s on the way with no release date in sight. What’s more, we’ve only seen that initial cinematic trailer. We don't know what part of Tamriel it will be set or what story it will tell. It’s quite baffling that six years after its announcement, fans are still being left in the dark.

That being said, now that Microsoft is bringing some of its exclusives from Xbox to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, some fans are hoping that The Elder Scrolls VI will also come to Sony’s blue brand, eventually. Unfortunately, while there is doubt that The Elder Scrolls VI will be released on PS5, some even fear that it might not even come to Xbox Series X/S.
The reason is, as already mentioned, The Elder Scrolls VI does not have a release date and we’ve not even seen any gameplay despite being revealed six years ago. This has led some fans to believe that The Elder Scrolls VI might skip the Xbox Series X/S and release on Microsoft’s next-gen console.
“Prediction: We aren't getting The Elder Scrolls VI this generation,” exclaimed Not_a_creativeuser. “Hear me out. Since Bethesda is Microsoft-owned now and they have apparently talked about making it exclusive, they might use this to their advantage. I hate console wars, but the fact of the matter is. To them, bringing people to their platform is important.”

“This Gen PS5 outsold the Xbox Series S and X combined. It wasn't even close,” they claimed. “If they make The Elder Scrolls VI a launch title for the next-gen Xbox, they might think more people would be directed towards its platform since The Elder Scrolls VI is the only ace up its sleeve. My guess is 2027-2028 or later.”
To be fair, Not_a_creativeuser does make some valid points, though we're sure that Microsoft has plenty of aces up its sleeve. It’s no secret that the PlayStation 5 has outsold the Xbox Series X/S in some regions and by making The Elder Scrolls VI a launch title for Microsoft’s next-gen console, it would surely help shift a lot of consoles and could even give the green brand a boost over its rivals. Of course, that is all speculative at this time.
“I don't think you need to be worried about being heard out. I think this is a very reasonable expectation. People have been moving the goalposts for TESVI for years, for a while it seems people have been set on 2026 but that still seems way too soon, I would think 2028 or thereabouts is a way more reasonable expectation,” explained TheDustyForest. It seems that much of the Reddit thread shares a similar sentiment.
Will The Elder Scrolls VI skip this generation entirely, only time will tell. At this point, I just want a release date. Hopefully, Microsoft and Bethesda will put us all out of our misery soon and reveal something related to The Elder Scrolls VI in the coming months.
