Bethesda fans think they’ve figured out exactly when The Elder Scrolls VI will drop, thanks to some information that leaked prior to the announcement of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.
Alright, quick catch-up time: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is 100% real, and we’ll be hearing about it in roughly four hours.
After what feels like a solid year of leaks, speculation and chatter, we finally know for sure that the game is, at the very least, on its way… but how does this have any bearing on the release of the next mainline entry in the Elder Scrolls series, The Elder Scrolls VI?

Well, thanks to some court documents that leaked back in 2023, fans on the r/TESVI subreddit think they’ve figured out when it will drop.
“Looks like most of that got pushed back by two years because of Covid. So 2026 is possible,” commented user BilboniusBagginius.
“That was the goal. Obviously there could be further delays beyond the COVID/Starfield 2 years, but yes,” replied user Andromogyne.
“Seeing as everything else has come out more or less “on time” I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that TESVI could be a 2026/27 release.”

If you're reading these comments and thinking "what the hell are they talking about", here's some extra context: In 2023, Microsoft had to hand over a lot of info to the United States Court of Appeals during the FTC v. Microsoft hearing.
This included info regarding Bethesda’s upcoming production timeline… info that eventually made its way to the public.
The timeline specifically states that "Oblivion Remaster" was supposed to drop at the end of 2022, and The Elder Scrolls VI was supposed to drop at the end of 2024.
So, if we assume that The Elder Scrolls VI has been delayed by a similar amount of time as Oblivion Remastered, that points to a late 2026/early 2027 release date.

This info isn’t a one-to-one comparison, especially considering that Bethesda seems to have been assisted by another studio for Oblivion Remastered’s development, but it is the most concrete piece of info we’ve had so far.
Let’s hope it’s not far off, though, because I think The Elder Scrolls community will lose it if they have to wait until 2028.
