Gears of War fans have been waiting for a few years now on an update to the iconic shooter series, and Gears of War 2 writer and director Joshua Ortega seems to have suggested that he's back on board for Gears of War 6.
To those who missed the memo, there is also a film and animated show in the works set in the world of Sera from Netflix. Dave Bautista, who has been petitioning to play Marcus Fenix for what feels like the beginning of recorded time, voiced his hope to be involved but the phone call hasn't happened... yet. Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski would love to see Bautista embody the character and that's equivalent to a gold star of approval, wouldn't you say so?
Bautista stars as a Twitch streamer and men's rights activist in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. Check out the trailer here:
Back to the games, though. Ortega's potential involvement is a promising sign. Gears of War 2 is one of the most highly rated games of all time, ensuring that the Xbox 360 was a must-have from the mid-2000s to the 2010s. Moreover, Gears 5 feels like it launched ages ago, but it's only been three years since then and developer The Coalition confirmed that it is working with Unreal Engine 5 for all future projects, and this must be the case for Gears of War 6.

The other day, Ortega quote-retweeted one of his older tweets covering his contributions to the series with the comment: "Once again it's on!"
When an account asked him whether that meant that he was writing or directing Gears of War 6, Ortega wouldn't say either way, but the possibility is sending fans into a frenzy thanks to their love for the second game. Being realistic, Xbox is in need of a game to blow the competition out of the water, and a Gears of War 6 reveal would be the ticket. We'll have to wait and see.
