It could be time to get those Lancers ready and revving because it seems that we’re finally getting the long-awaited Gears of War 6 announcement at this weekend’s Xbox Games Showcase event.
The arrival of Gears 6 has been one of the worst-kept secrets within the video game industry in recent years. For starters, we know that a new Gears of War game is always likely, given that this is one of Xbox’s biggest franchises alongside the likes of Halo, Forza and The Elder Scrolls.

Secondly, rumours of Gears 6, as well as a Gears of War remastered collection, have been running rampant across social media for countless months. Most recently, we heard that Gears 6 will be revealed during this Sunday’s Xbox Games Showcase and now that rumour has been further validated by Tom Warren of The Verge.

It’s been a short while since we’ve seen a main entry in the Gears of War series with Gears 5 initially being released in 2019 for PC and Xbox One, before receiving a free new-gen upgrade the following year for Xbox Series X/S. We did get the turn-based tactical game Gears Tactics in 2020 but that was more of a spin-off than being a main game.
Of course, details on Gears 6 at this time are left to our assumptions given the fact that it’s not been revealed by Microsoft or developers The Coalition at this time. However, without giving any spoilers away, Gears 6 will no doubt continue the interesting story arc that began with Gears 4 and ended with an enticing cliffhanger at the end of Gears 5.
It’s also safe to assume that Gears 6 will be coming exclusively to PC and Xbox Series X/S. It may also be the first entry in the series to leave the Xbox One behind.
Hopefully, all will be revealed this Sunday 9 June during the Xbox Games Showcase and we’ll keep you informed when all the details officially drop. Until then, take all leaks with a pinch of salt.
