The Last of Us Part 1 Firefly Edition welcomes rare 50% discount

The Last of Us in 2013, widely regarded as one of the greatest games ever made, left a lasting impression on the gaming community that has now spilled out into the wider zeitgeist with the fantastic HBO series in 2023. Despite launching amidst a zombie-crazed media boom, The Last of Us carved out its own place with its drama, beautifully-realised world, tense and challenging gameplay, and the central relationship of Joel, a hardened mercenary focused only on his own survival, and Ellie, a kid who’s never known a normal life and happens to carry a potential cure for the zombie infection.

In 2022, developer Naughty Dog launched a remake of the PS3 classic on the PS5, largely delivering a 1:1 overhaul of its graphics, animations, and gameplay systems, to bring new levels of fidelity and realism to Joel and Ellie’s harrowing journey. Right now you can jump into this remade masterpiece, complete with extra bells and whistles for a huge discount on PC. The Last of Us Part I: Firefly Edition is down to £44.99 on the PlayStation Store, discounted from £99.99.

Included in this special edition set are a download code for the main game complete with the Left Behind prequel expansion, as well as a limited edition steelbook case for the game — there’s no disc included, but it’s a nice touch nevertheless — and a copy of The Last of Us: American Dreams comics #1-4.

In-game there’s also a bounty of extra goodies to help you survive the post-apocalyptic wasteland, with increases to Joel’s health, crafting speed, listen distance, and more, along with a litany of weapon upgrades and holsters that aren’t available in the standalone game.

While there aren't any reviews for the PC Firefly edition, you can get a sense of how gamers found The Last of Us Part I on PS5 over on Amazon - where it's currently reduced to £32.99. It has an impressive 4.8 stars out of 5 from over 1,000 global ratings, with one gamer writing: "If you haven't played it, play it. It's Naughty Dog at their finest delivering an emotional story coupled with one of the only post-apocalypse games that understands that resources need to be scarce and rewards tactical play."

Another called it "one of the best video games ever made", adding: "This is more than a game... it's an experience thats sucks you into the masterfully crafted narrative with expertly executed gameplay." A third simply said: "One of the best games I've played in a very long time."

However, everyone's tastes are different, and one gamer decreed it "too hard", saying: "Can't get past a level no matter what I try." Another added: "The problem [with] this new remake is that it's been toned down from the original. The remake is no longer as violent as the the original release."

If you loved the first instalment and wanted to check out the second, The Last of Us Part II Remastered is currently discounted for PS5 at Smyths and costs £29.99. For another game known for its sweeping world building and expansive gameplay, check out Red Dead Redemption for PC - which costs £39.99 from Rockstar Games.

But for PC gamers, this discount on The Last of Us Part I Firefly Edition isn't to be missed.
