Star Wars: The Acolyte took the world by storm when it aired on Disney+ last summer but after the show was cancelled following just one season, its epic cliffhanger will remain just that, a cliffhanger.
Taking place chronologically in the whole Star Wars franchise and giving us more insight into the birth of the Dark Side, The Acolyte followed the story of a former Padawan who reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes.

The show ran for eight episodes and despite the epic cliffhanger, it was soon revealed that the Disney+ show had not been renewed for a second season, disappointing legions of fans.

Not only did The Acolyte receive positive reviews but it also left the door open for a lot more stories to be told, especially one centered around none other than Darth Plagueis himself.
That is because in the very last moments of the last episode of The Acolyte, we see a skeletal hand clinging to the wall of a cave, followed by a cloaked figure with glowing eyes that many recognised as Plagueis.
If explored, we would have found out more about his origins before the events of the original trilogy but it seems as though we will never know where this story was going to go.
As a result, fans have taken to r/StarWars to express their disappointment.

Alongside a screencap of the scene in question, one user posted, “So I guess this is going nowhere now”.
It wasn’t long before the comments came flooding in with many Star Wars fans joining in on the frustration.
“I'm not surprised they cancelled the show but man I am so pi**ed they chose the most interesting plotline to be the next season tease,” one user commented.
“The sith stuff was very interesting, Qimir was cool, and they chose to focus on the twins and the witches and now we probably won't see the sith stuff for a long time.

Hope they realize Qimir and the sith stuff was promising and do something with those instead.”
User IWishIHavent added, “In my headcanon, when I saw Plageuis, it made me think that he was responsible for the twin's existence, having mastered the power of bringing life spontaneously.
It would be cool to have a second season showing how Qimir got where he is - from his Jedi days to meeting Plageuis - and showing how Plageuis was manipulating everyone, including the witches, this whole time.”
Alas, it may never come to be with Disney+ leaving The Acolyte behind in favour of some of its other hit shows such as Andor season two which airs later this month.
