With Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars releasing in 2026 and 2027 respectively, we can only imagine how the story will play out for our new line-up.
However, with our old Avengers hanging up their weapons, fans are worried that this may mean that Thor will meet his untimely demise.
Taking to r/marvelstudios, one user had the following to say about the God of Thunder.
“I hope they do not kill Thor off.

Let’s face it. We won’t have much screen time left with Thor. I personally hope at the very least we get another movie and he is in the next two Avengers movies.
I think the temptation will be to kill him off. Perhaps in some heroic sacrifice in an Avengers movie but I really hope they do not.
My hope is they go down the All Father King Thor route where he goes back to a revived Asgard to rule and perhaps get married.”
What followed is almost 300 comments with fans coming forward to share their hopes for the iconic character, and discuss whether his death would be beneficial to the story.

User PepsiSheep wrote, “I like the idea of Thor becoming an Odin like character.
Still bada*s in his own right, but not the star of the show and acting as a support for the future heroes of Asgard.”
User JRHThreeFour agreed, adding, “I like this idea, this could be a good way to retire the character but not totally write Thor Odinson out of the MCU.
Thor doesn’t necessarily have to die or sacrifice himself like Tony Stark. Maybe let him hang up the mantle like Steve Rogers.

There will always be a need for someone to utilize the powers of Mjolnir or Stormbreaker for heroism and it isn’t always going be Thor himself.”
However, user kyle0305 has some concerns about this.
“My problem with just “retiring” these characters is that would they really just sit back and not help when some big bad arrives?” They wrote.
“Like if Thor retires after Kang is defeated is he really going to just sit back while Galactus or Apocalypse or whoever the next big bad is comes along? Same goes for all the superheroes.”
