Following the recent announcement that the recommended retail price of the PlayStation 5 is set to increase in several regions, Sony fans are worried that the next console the company releases will be unaffordable for many.
As revealed on the official PlayStation Blog last night, the cost of certain PS5 models is going to increase… starting from today.
"With a backdrop of a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates, SIE has made the tough decision to raise the recommended retail price (RRP) of the PlayStation 5 console in select markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Australia and New Zealand.”

For comparison, the PlayStation®5 Digital Edition Console - ASTRO BOT Bundle currently costs £339.99 on the official PlayStation site at the moment.
The PlayStation Blog states that the cost of a standard PlayStation 5 Digital Edition console will be bumped up to £429.99 before the end of the day. That’s a £90 increase, and it doesn’t even come packaged alongside Astro Bot.
Over on the r/PS5 subreddit, fans aren’t feeling too hopeful about the effects this will have on future Sony consoles down the line.
“This seems weird, 4 years and a half in a generation and it is more expensive compared to launch,” commented user ViewPsychological933.

“Maybe when PS6 arrives, I can still sell my PS5 at the same price I bought it on release.”
“Non-zero chance this console generation will go another 5 years,” replied user tomado23.
“If you’re Sony, don’t even bother pulling the trigger on PS6 in this economic climate.”
Yeah, I’m right there with you folks.

This fun little hobby of ours is becoming more and more of a luxury by the day. I can’t believe I managed to buy a disc drive PlayStation 5 console at launch for less than the cost of a retail Digital Edition PS5 now.
I’m gonna start looking into alternative hobbies, like cross stitching or something…
