You’d think there’s only one choice for leader of the Avengers going into the next film, DOOMSDAY, which is currently shooting in London.
While many Marvel characters could step up to lead the team, it usually falls to Captain America to be the one everyone turns to.
Captain America should be stepping up to lead the Avengers
With Steve Rogers old, or dead, and the shield passed to Sam Wilson, it should be obvious that Sam will lead the charge against Doctor Doom.

According to screenwriter of Captain America: Brave New World, that’s exactly what the plan is.
Rob Edwards, in speaking to Comic Book Movie, notes that, “He's Captain America now, so arguably, he's running the show.”
Sam Wilson has to reform the Avengers, and so, taking the lead there, it’s only fitting that he take the team forward.
Edwards says that, “I'm just guessing as a fan, but I think that's where you go with Doomsday. You recreate the Avengers as was suggested in the movie.”

If Brave New World laid the foundations of what to expect from Captain America, we should get to see Anthony Mackie flex himself as leader, and take what makes Cap such an important character and expand it.
Sam Wilson has learned from the best, and he should know how to face off against a universe-ending foe, by now.
While many may have wanted another character to step up, it will always make sense for Marvel to place Captain America at the head of the table.
Especially with no Iron Man able to take over, if needed.

While Wilson wasn’t my choice for Cap’s shield - Bucky Barnes is right there - it will be great to see how the dynamic of the team changes with him leading the way.
I just hope we get a scene where everyone sits in a huge room, one by one going up to vote in Sam Wilson as defacto leader, like the new pope.
