A recent interview with the Marvel Cinematic Universe star Scarlett Johansson has got Marvel fans thinking about Black Widow’s replacement, and they’re pretty sure they’ve found the perfect person for the job.
Yesterday, InStyle published their interview with Scarlett Johansson, and Jason Sheeler took the opportunity to ask about whether or not she’ll be returning to the MCU to reprise her role as Natasha Romanoff.
“Natasha is dead. She is dead. She's dead. Okay?” Johansson told InStyle.

“They just don't want to believe it. They’re like, ‘But she could come back!’ Look, I think the balance of the entire universe is held in her hand. We’re going to have to let it go. She saved the world. Let her have her hero moment.”
The interview prompted users on the r/marvelstudios subreddit to theorise about who would be best to take on the role of Black Widow, and everyone seems to be in agreement that there’s a very obvious choice.
“they don't even need to bring her back, because Yelena will likely just play the same role that Natasha has had before,” commented user Jaqulean.
“This is a good opportunity to have her interact with the wider Universe while establishing a partnership with the other heroes…”

“100% agreed. Florence Pugh is an amazing actress and is more than enough talent to pull off the role of the next Black Widow,” replied user Soggy-University-524.
“Yelena’s probably one of my favorite newer characters honestly. Would rather see her in a role than retread old territory for nostalgia. And we’re already getting enough of that with RDJ and Evans.”
Honestly, I 100% agree. What exactly would have been the point in introducing Florence Pugh to the MCU and giving her such a big role if Disney is just planning to bring Johansson back and cheapen the experience?
Still, it’s not impossible that she might pop up in the future. Everyone else is apparently returning for Avengers: Doomsday anyway…
