MCU fans divided our new Iron Man as reboot looms

He is Iron Man

Like it or not, the MCU as we know it is coming to an end.

With Fantastic Four: First Steps setting up another universe alongside the various alternate realities the X-Men seem to be hanging out in, it's clear Avengers: Secret Wars is going to take a leaf out of the source material and end with various universes coming together.

It might not be a total reboot for the MCU then, but I think we can definitely expect some changes.

Among them, if I had to guess, would be new stars taking on the role of heroes like Iron Man and Thor.

Given the likes of Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth have embodied these characters for coming up to two decades at this point, they won't be easy shoes to fill.

Certainly, the recasting of Tony Stark is a divisive topic, especially since RDJ seems pretty keen to come back at some point.

Over on Reddit the general consensus seems to be our new Iron Man should be on the younger side, unless they really do want to make sure their actors keep doing it until they're 90.

"Actors age out of roles as time passes, they can't do things forever," one fan notes sagely. "For example RDJ will be 60 years old by the time Avengers: Doomsday comes out. And Marvel will understandably want to use iconic characters like Iron Man again in the future without having to lean on Downey."

Taron Egerton was one popular choice in the thread, which I can definitely see. There's also growing support for Henry Golding, who is also brilliant in everything.

Whoever ends up taking over from RDJ will have a near-impossible task of course, and I do not envy them at all.
