MCU fans lose it as new trailer confirms our Avengers replacement is just one character

To be fair, this one hero could solo the original Avengers

A new trailer just dropped for the next big Marvel Cinematic Universe film Thunderbolts* (like two seconds after a different, new trailer for the same movie), and it’s confirmed something we were pretty certain of beforehand; the Avengers are getting replaced.

The latest trailer for Thunderbolts* dropped yesterday… and then was immediately upstaged by a second “international” trailer that gave away a lot more details.

The biggest reveal in the most recent trailer is the setup for Sentry, who is being touted as a one-man replacement for the Avengers by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.

We kind of assumed that this was the route Marvel was going to take with the film (considering the Avengers were replaced by the Thunderbolts during the events of the Dark Avengers comic book), but it’s still pretty bold for Disney to give away the whole plot of the movie in a trailer.

Fans over on the r/marvelstudios don’t seem too bothered by the lack of restraint however, as the commenters over in a thread detailing the international trailer for Thunderbolts* are extremely positive.

“This has potential to be one of the best film in this franchise,” commented user theSaltySolo.

“A rag tag team of washouts with nothing left and trying to a find a higher purpose. So much potential for deep character development.”

“Without question this movie continues to look arguably the best or as great as any MCU movie to date,” replied user MarvelMind.

“The amount of quality in the cinematography is just such level above many MCU entries. If the story can hold up plus have this much a great sense of emotion through it’s blocking and framing then it could be the standout project of this phase.”

I’m on board with the hype, but let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. The MCU seems to be bouncing back at the moment, but there’s still plenty of room for disappointment.

Also, hey, anyone notice Taskmaster just isn’t in that trailer? Huh. Wonder why that is…
