Unfortunately, it’s not clear what’s next for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
Last year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 marked the end of an era, with James Gunn revealing that he always pictured the story as a trilogy adding that he was unlikely to return for another film.
He’s not the only one. Dave Bautista also made it clear that he wouldn’t be portraying Drax following Vol. 3’s release.

Yes, it’s expected that the Guardians will return eventually, albeit with a new team line-up, but it’s unknown when that’ll happen.
We do know what’s next for Marvel Comics’ iteration of the Guardians though.
A brand new line-up for the team has just been revealed in the new Ultimates #8 issue. Could the MCU take inspiration?
ICYMI: The new trailer for Thunderbolts* recently landed. Take a look below.
Marvel’s Ultimate Universe has almost ended its first year, with the series uniting the Ultimates in an attempt to return The Maker from exile.

Ultimates #8, created by Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri, is due out in January 2025 with the issue set to take us into the cosmos.
There, we’ll meet up with the Guardians of the Galaxy and thanks to the issue’s cover having been revealed, we’ve got a pretty good idea of who’s on the team.
As reported by ComicBook, the Guardians will be seeking out missing Ultimates member America Chavez - and it’ll be Star-Lord, Captain Marvel, Ultimate Nullifier, and Cosmo making up the team.
It’s a rather small, unconventional line-up but the Ultimates series has always walked its own path.

Even though the team features some familiar characters, they’re very different iterations.
Here, Star-Lord is sporting a bald warrior-sorcerer sort of a look.
Captain Marvel is blue, so likely Kree, while Cosmos is thankfully as cute as ever.
"The creative goal we set for ourselves on Ultimates - in addition to telling complete stories every issue - was to create (or recreate) characters interesting enough to sustain readers' imaginations and their own series, if they had to," writer Camp said.

With the issue due out in January, you’re definitely better off getting your Guardians fix from the comic book world.
It could be a lengthy wait for MCU fans.
