Marvel has officially revealed the New Avengers, not a new Avengers team, but the New Avengers, a brand-new team for the MCU.
We are going to be heading into MCU spoiler territory here, mostly around the latest film to head to cinemas, so if you’re averse to spoilers, get the heck out of here.
The Thunderbolts are teaming up in cinemas next week
Still here? Good, let’s get stuck into it. So, it’s been hotly debated as to what the Thunderbolts team was really due to be called, given the asterisk in the title of the film.

For some time people considered the name Thunderbolts would be temporary, giving way to the Dark Avengers, seeing as the members all have nefarious pasts.
However, Marvel has been all over social media and message boards since the premiere of the film, announcing that the Thunderbolts are actually the New Avengers.
The New Avengers team first debuted in the comics thanks to Brian Michael Bendis, who established a new team when the old team were no more.
Seeing as the Avengers are all over the place in the MCU, it makes sense to usher in a new team, with Sentry, or ‘Bob’ in tow.

Does this mean Thunderbolts* is a standalone film? Or will we see the team together again, perhaps between Avengers: DOOMSDAY and Avengers: Secret Wars?
This also begs the question, how will the actual Avengers react to a new team kicking around?
The New Avengers line-up includes, Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster and John Walker.
Whether The Sentry tags along is hard to say, and further into spoiler lands, but he is a part of the comic book team, so there’s a strong chance.

Having said that, the comic book team is drastically different to the MCU line-up, featuring Wolverine, Spider-Man, and Luke Cage, too.
