Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that he is “spending a year” writing a new movie for himself and his co-star in Deadpool & Wolverine Hugh Jackman.
The film, which doesn’t currently have a title, will also be directed by Shawn Levy who helmed the Deadpool outing.
Deadpool & Wolverine will make its Disney+ debut later this year
It’s worth noting from the start that this isn’t a Marvel project and currently has no affiliations with Disney.

Speaking on the Awards Circuit podcast from Variety, Reynolds discussed the project briefly, revealing that he’s writing the project himself.
“I’m spending the year writing,” noted the actor, “I’m writing a movie for myself, Hugh, and Shawn to do that is not Marvel.”
It’s well known that Reynolds and Jackman have been close friends for many years since they first worked together on the X-Men franchise.
Fans were eager to see Deadpool and Wolverine team up in the recent blockbuster smash-hit after years of watching the pair poke fun at each other on social media.

Now, their legacy can continue with a new project with long-time collaborator Shawn Levy.
Levy directed Hugh Jackman in 2011 sci-fi Real Steel, before going on to work with Reynolds on two films, Free Guy in 2021 and The Adam Project in 2022.
The trio has become even closer since the success over the summer of the R-rated Marvel team-up that paid homage to the X-Men films from 20th Century Fox.
It’s likely to be some time before fans get to see the film as it appears Reynolds will spend 2025 writing which means shooting won’t start until the following year at the earliest.

Of course, we have no idea what this eventual film will look like, it may not contain any action, though it’ll likely be based on plenty of jokes.
Whatever it looks like, the film will garner a lot of support from the legions of fans who adore this creative team.
