What would our world be if it weren't for endless Marvel Cinematic Universe theories? Well, it would be quite a boring place for us nerds, that’s for sure.
The MCU is one of the most profitable forms of entertainment whether you’re watching movies on the big cinema screen or in the comfort of your own home with Disney Plus. Yet, it’s fair to say that post Avengers: Endgame, the MCU has not been quite as consistent as it used to be.
Check out the Avengers: Endgame trailer below!
For every Guardians of the Galaxy, there’s an Eternals and for every Ant-Man, there’s an Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. However, with the arrival of Captain America: Brave New World in February 2025 and then The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July 2025, Marvel fans will be hoping that the MCU will be back on track.

Before I proceed, I am about to go into spoiler territory for the MCU with Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever related to the deaths of popular characters.
Ok, so here we go, this is your last spoiler warning. Tony Stark died in Avengers: Infinity Ward, Natasha Romanoff died in Avengers: Endgame and Steve Rogers travelled back in time to live the life that he had missed with Peggy Carter.
Sadly, as for T'Challa, Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman passed away in 2020 which opened the door for another character to be a new protector in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Yet, fans on Reddit have been speculating that the aforementioned MCU characters could be recast for the sixth Avengers movie, namely Avengers: Secret Wars which is currently scheduled to be released in May 2027.

“The rumoured post-Secret Wars 'soft reboot' will resurrect and recast classic MCU Avengers while still maintaining most of the continuity,” claimed LawyerLanky1284. To cut a long story short, this Redditor believes that Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff, Steve Rogers and T’Challa will all be recast thanks to multiverse shenanigans.
They also believe that at least one actor could reprise a role. To be honest, it’s not the worst theory and if I was to guess which actor could reprise a role, it could be Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow but I’d also love to see Michael B. Jordan as Black Panther in live-action form.
Much of the Reddit thread would prefer not to see previous characters reprise roles and for the most part, I agree.
“No offence, but if they were to do that and destroy all the emotion and connection people built to those characters, the MCU would be done. What’s the point with all those emotional payoffs just to wipe them away?” asked lucifero25.

While I agree with what lucifero25 said, sadly that bridge has already been crossed in a way with Robert Downey Jr. being cast as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday (May 2026) which has potentially opened up a big can of worms for Marvel and Disney to do the same with other MCU actors.
We’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds for our beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe.
