We’re only a few days away from Amazon Prime’s video game tie-in anthology series, Secret Level and, well, reviews aren’t good.
Part of me isn’t surprised, while another part is devastated, as it showed promise, while being made by the terrific team behind Love, Death, and Robots. Apparently, Secret Level isn’t anywhere near as good.
Secret Level drops onto Amazon Prime on 10 December
The trailer showed lots of great video game characters spread across 15 episodes of adventure, which now seem like overly expensive adverts.

Gene Park of the Washington Post took to Twitter to share their disappointment.
“The PlayStation episode is awful. You’ve already seen most of Kratos in the trailer. It’s 5-second cameos of a few Sony references while the Gen Z protagonist just runs around and literally says ‘Whoa, that was OFF THE HOOK’”
That five seconds is basically Kratos pointing at the protagonist.
“They made an entire episode dedicated to Concord but not God of War?” said one fan in shock.

“This just sounds like a commercial,” comments another in sadness.
I’m not sure if we were all expecting a hefty adventure with Kratos and a bunch of other Sony characters, but to put him in the trailer and do nothing with him seems like a misstep.
Perhaps the same misstep that caused Concord to get a full episode and apparently end on a stinger that would have continued in the game. Ouch.
“Ready Player Dumb,” quips another Sony fan - this one tickled me.

There’s a lot of disappointment around with another Twitter user saying, “This was the episode I was most excited for I’m so sad this is all we got.”
Despite feelings being tepid toward the show, I’m hopeful for a second season with tighter storytelling and more depth.
Gaming needs offshoots like this to bring in new players and extend the worlds we love.
