PlayStation fans are bracing themselves for the end of the PS4 era that will arrive one day.
The PlayStation 4 was released in 2013, and over a decade later, the Sony console is still going strong.
When I bought the PS4, it was the first time I got a console during a midnight launch at a nearby retailer. I’ll never forget that joy, early hours in the morning, plugging in the PS4 and hearing its boot-up chime for the first time.

Check out the Killzone Shadow Fall trailer below!
The first game I played on my newly acquired PlayStation 4 was Killzone Shadow Fall from Horizon Zero Dawn developer Guerrilla Games.
To this day, Killzone Shadow Fall still looks great, but sadly, that was the last time we’d see anything from that series again. To be honest, it’s about time Sony brought Killzone back.

With that in mind, gamers on Reddit have also been reminiscing about the PlayStation 4 and getting ready for the end of its era.
“When do you think the PS4's end of life will happen? I.e last game published,” asked Bijanabrahim. “I imagine it’ll happen by the end of 2026.”

“PS4 is different from previous generations,” explained Zeroone199. “Fortnite and other free-to-play games don't want to drop support because some portion of their player base will switch to other games instead of buying new hardware to continue playing the game.”
“We can speculate, but this could change 10-15 years from now. After all, a new Dreamcast game was recently released,” replied DylanWhite86.
“AAA games? Probably next year,” suggested typical_gamer1. “Indie titles? Probably closer to the end of the decade or whenever PS6 comes around.”
Many of the Reddit users make excellent points, especially when it comes to cross-platform titles.

Despite improving the quality of a game during development by focusing on current-gen consoles only, many gamers still play on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. As such, developers and publishers will not take a financial hit by ditching last-gen consoles anytime soon.
