Tonk Hawk is a legendary skateboarder so it only makes sense that he has a legendary series of video games, right?
In 1999, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was released for the original PlayStation and it introduced fans to the extreme sports genre, and for players such as myself that had no clue whatsoever about skateboarding, it made us feel badass as we pulled off Hawk’s iconic 900 manoeuvre.
Take a look at some gameplay in action below.
The Tony Hawk’s video game series would later spawn a number of sequels. We did get a remaster for the Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2012. Sadly, this remaster wasn't quite up to the standards that this series had previously set. Thankfully in 2020, developed by Vicarious Visions and published by Activision, we received a bundle of remake joy with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2, which included the first two games in the series with improved visuals, gameplay, features and much more.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 would be met with widespread critical acclaim across all available platforms and would even earn a score of 90 on Metacritic receiving the ‘Must-Play’ accolade. What’s more, fans on Reddit have been sharing their love for this awesome collection of remakes.
“In retrospect, what's the best remake we’ve gotten so far? THPS 1+2 is the clear winner for me,” said RDDAMAN819, opening up the discussion on the thread. “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 is my favourite as well. It’s the best I’ve played, and I’ve played it a ton,” said a reminiscing TiredReader87. “THPS 1+2 probably wins it for me,” agreed ElMaridoDeNanner.
Of course, there were many other fantastic remakes that the Reddit thread spoke of, such as Resident Evil for the Nintendo GameCube, (my personal favourite), Shadow of the Colossus for the PS4, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for the Nintendo Switch and more.
In our review of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+ 2, we said it’s “about as good a remaster as we've ever had, staying as close to the originals as possible, and only veering off slightly where it spots a chance to improve on the source material.”
