It’s been a long time coming, but the wait is almost over. Probably.
Almost five years have passed since the release of The Crew 2 - Ubisoft’s 2018 open-world racing game was generally well received when it came out, although many criticised its lack of polish. Even so, it had its fans, and gamers have been questioning for years why we haven’t got a follow-up to it on new-gen consoles.

However, rumours have been circulating for some time that a third game is finally in development. Datamined screenshots from one of The Crew 2’s DLCs seemingly revealed something titled “Project Orlando”. The images suggested that whatever Project Orlando was would be set in Hawaii (I know, a bit confusing when you consider the codename).
Advert
Then, last year, two prominent insiders claimed that a new game in The Crew series is indeed in development, but that it appeared that it’d be going with a new name, Motorfest (or The Crew: Motorfest).
Well, we still don’t know if any of the above is true, but it won’t be long at all until we find out. On Twitter, the official account for The Crew series has confirmed that something is coming today (31 January) at 5PM UTC. What exactly it is is a mystery, but the account was specifically responding to a user predicting that “The Crew 3 WILL be announced in 2023”, so it seems very likely that we have a new game on the horizon.
At the time of writing, it’s just over five hours to go until this announcement drops, so sit tight. Hopefully, it’ll meet the expectations of fans - I can’t help but wonder if the devs are actually planning an elaborate prank where they simply announce that nothing is in development. That would be cruel.
