Red Dead Redemption 3's most likely protagonist is a divisive one

Well it would make sense

Red Dead Redemption 3 may not have been confirmed just yet but with Rockstar liking to keep us on our toes, we hope it won’t be long before it surprises us with an announcement.

With John Marston being our guide through Red Dead Redemption and Arthur Morgan taking on the role of our protagonist in Red Dead Redemption 2, it will be difficult to find another character who can capture the player's hearts as much as they did.

Check out the launch trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 below!

However, with fans believing that we may already have our protagonist for Red Dead Redemption 3, the potential choice has caused some division between the fan base.

So who could we be stepping into the shoes of for the next Rockstar Games entry?

None other than Jack Marston himself, according to many fans.

Son of John Marston and a recurring character in the Red Dead series, it would not be too far-fetched to see him continue his father’s legacy having been inspired by both him and Arthur Morgan.

However, not everybody is convinced and fans took to r/reddeadredemption to share their thoughts.

“What do you think about Jack as a protagonist?” one recent post reads.

“I’m replaying RDR1 and my goal was to speedrun the main story to play all side missions as Jack, so I could learn more of him as an adult gunslinger. He makes so much more sense after playing RDR2 but I still want to know more.”

It wasn’t long before comments began to flood in about Jack’s potential role in the future of the series.

“Playing as Jack is just a sad memory of what used to be,” the top comment lamented.

“When playing as Arthur after a long day, I go back to camp, greet a few people, and go to bed. Then, I wake up, drink some coffee, antagonise Micah, and head out. As John, I come back to Beecher’s, do house stuff, and call it a night. It may not seem like a big part of your gameplay, (after all, they are just NPCs) but as soon as you play as Jack, YOU HAVE NO ONE TO GO BACK TO.”

Another said: “He was great in the epilogue but if the RDR story is to continue, it shouldn’t follow Jack.”

Whatever happens, I'm sure Rockstar will cook up something good.
