According to an industry insider, a PlayStation 5 port of Bethesda’s 2023 title Starfield was ready to go in 2024, sparking confusion as to why said port hasn’t already been released.
As revealed on the Xbox Two podcast by The Verge’s senior editor Tom Warren, a PS5 port of Starfield was set to drop alongside the release of the game’s first expansion, Shattered Space, back in 2024.
Warren noted that he had no idea why said port was delayed following Shattered Space’s release, so it seems nobody is quite sure why it still hasn’t made its way to PS5 hardware.

Take a look at Shattered Space in action below.
This is made all the weirder considering that we definitely know it’s on its way, because Bethesda and Microsoft haven’t exactly done a good job of hiding it.
Several Xbox console exclusive ports have already made their way to the PlayStation 5 over the last year, including the likes of Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush and Grounded.

Plus, they’ve already announced PS5 ports for both Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Forza Horizon 5 too, so a PlayStation 5 version of Starfield is looking more like an eventuality than a possibility at this point.
And as if things weren’t already obvious enough, Bethesda accidentally leaked the port a couple of weeks ago. PS5 logos were found on the mod page for Starfield on the official Bethesda site, before being taken down as soon as everyone noticed the error.
So, why are Microsoft and Bethesda waiting? Who knows, honestly.
Maybe they just don’t want too many of these Xbox-to-PlayStation ports to drop too close to one another, or maybe the negative reception to Starfield’s Shattered Space DLC scared them off of announcing the port.

Either way, it’s definitely on its way. I’d be very surprised if we don’t see it land on PlayStation consoles at some point in 2025, considering its existence is currently one of the gaming industry’s worst-kept secrets.
