You've probably heard a lot about The Batman over the past week or so. The latest take on the dark knight's tale featuring a rather sullen looking Robert Pattinson doesn't enter cinemas until tomorrow (4 March) and already the outlook is positive. Some quotes from reviews were leaked online a couple of days early calling it "sensational" and "one helluva movie".
Before anyone had seen it, Warner Bros. were promising plenty of violence and the return of three of the caped crusader's most iconic villains; Catwoman, Riddler, and Penguin. When the reviews officially launched it seemed the hype was to be believed. Over 200 reviews have now been entered and The Batman stands strong at 86%, placing it as one of the best DC films of all time.

While critical success is always nice, what producers really want is commercial success. For that it's the audience's opinion which matters most. According to Deadline, industry projections think it will be one of the top five best opening weekends worldwide... ever. The Batman had a high production cost estimated around $200million (£150million), but if predictions are to be believed it could make this back in the first three days.

Experts predict that Robert Pattinson's take on the defender of Gotham will take in $125million in the States and roughly the same abroad. This puts predicted intake for the opening weekend at almost $250million (£185million). This would place it as the fifth best opening weekend of all time behind; Avenger's Endgame, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Avengers Infinity War, and Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens.
This is particularly impressive with ongoing real world events. Warner Bros. have already confirmed that it has removed The Batman from all Russian cinemas following the invasion of Ukraine. This move is in solidarity with the Ukrainian crisis.
