Resident Evil Code Veronica remake tease leaves fans divided

Resident Evil Code Veronica remake tease leaves fans divided

Should we lower expectations?

A recent rumour related to the popular Resident Evil entry, Code: Veronica may leave fans feeling divided as to what to expect from a potential remake.

When Capcom released the Resident Evil remake in 2002 for the Nintendo GameCube, it arguably set a new standard for remakes. Yet, it would take Capcom nearly two decades to release a new remake in the beloved survival horror series with Resident Evil 2 in 2019.

Check out the Resident Evil Code: Veronica trailer below!

The most recent remake arrived in 2023 with the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 4 and earlier this year, current series director Kōshi Nakanishi teased that a new Resident Evil is in development.

That being said, we don't know whether this new Resident Evil will be a remake or a new story. However, it does seem that much of the community is leaning towards the latter but previous rumours have claimed that the original game in the series could be remade again, as well as Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 5.

Many fans believe out of all the games yet to be remade, Resident Evil Code: Veronica is the most deserving with it largely considered as the last traditional game with tank controls and an emphasis on inventory management, two key survival horror concepts.

Naturally, following the success of the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes, if a new Code: Veronica was to arrive, fans would hope that this survival horror classic would benefit from the same level of treatment. Sadly, however, that might not be the case.

Redditors shared an article from Twisted Voxel that claims known industry insider, Dusk Golem, says that a potential Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake would not be recreated to the same level as 2023’s Resident Evil 4 and would be a less “ambitious” project.

Dusk Golem went on to claim to members on Discord, that Capcom is also working on a Resident Evil Zero remake but that and Code: Veronica are the only two remakes the company is currently working on.

It’s entirely possible that the Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake could be a similar revival to the upcoming Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, which is essentially the same game as its 2006 release but with a lot of quality-of-life improvements and enhanced visuals.

“I just hope Code: Veronica doesn't get the RE3 remake treatment where half the content is removed,” pleaded Redditor NoahFuelGaming1234 with Jakesummers1 adding “Just give me the damn Code: Veronica remake already.”

“As long as they keep Code: Veronica in all of its disturbing glory, I'll be happy. I think it's one of the most underrated RE games and I love it,” replied TheRealCabol.

Resident Evil Zero was not a great game but it could be remade and reimagined to be great,” said AssaultMonkey150. “Code: Veronica also needs some work to modernise, so these two are definitely not easy games to remake.”

Hopefully, Capcom will release new details on the upcoming Resident Evil as well as any other remakes or remasters that may be in the works. We’ll keep you posted when those details drop.
