Capcom’s iconic horror video game series will soon be returning with Resident Evil 9 but according to a recent rumour, the next entry could follow the same formula as RE4 and RE7.
This has left fans feeling quite wary to say the least.
In the meantime, check out the trailer for Resident Evil: Retribution below!
What we know about Resident Evil 9 so far is quite limited but it's enough that fans are excited.

We know that it is rumoured to launch in late 2025 or early 2026 and will feature dual protagonists Jill Valentine (more on this later) and Leon Kennedy as they team up with Chris Redfield and Barry Burton.
The sneak peek also showed us a potential jungle-like setting which may even be home to some supernatural entities.
Other than that, we remain in the dark but a recent rumour hints at Resident Evil 9 following in the footsteps of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7 which may explain its delay in development.
The rumour comes courtesy of insider AestheticGamer who took to Twitter to talk more about this rumour, claiming that RE9 is set to be a major “reinvention” for the series.

“The thing I think people will realise when RE9 is revealed is the reason this game is taking so long is because it's like a big reinvention of the series, to the same level as RE4 & RE7,” they explained.
“It's not going to play just like RE7/RE8 or the remakes, it's trying new things and very ambitious. It will almost definitely be revealed this year, so just hold tight.”
However, AestheticGamer has also previously stated that rumours of Jill Valentine playing an important role in the next instalment are false.
Instead, Leon will be the main character once again and Jill will only be referenced on the odd occasion.

Of course, these are all rumours from an insider so they are worth taking with a pinch of salt and we will no doubt learn more about Resident Evil 9 later this year.
For now, fans are left feeling wary about the latest rumour.
“Resident Evil: Like a Dragon,” one user joked over on r/horror.
However, another user was feeling a bit more hopeful.

“I'll give Capcom the benefit of the doubt,” they wrote.
“The last decade they have mostly cooked with the REmakes and new entries.”
Only time will tell but for now, all we can do is wait.
