The OG Resident Evil game deserves a lot of credit, as the defining horror icon of its time and the reason we have Capcom’s flagship series.
It hasn’t aged the best though, if you wanted to play it nowadays I’d suggest getting yourself a copy of the GameCube remake, which happens to be available on most modern platforms.

The remake does wonders for the game with enhanced visuals, more content, and you can even turn off the tank controls if you really want to though I’d say it makes the game a bit too easy.

The original PlayStation release does still have its merits though, and if you can play it on PC it’s well-worth downloading this free remaster mod to improve its visuals.
It’s nothing fancier than an HD Texture Pack, but the results speak for themselves and the game looks much crisper with it installed.
Don’t expect the same sort of quality as the GameCube version but if you’re a fan of retro titles like I am and want to experience gaming history in the smoothest way possible, mods like this are a great way to do so.
It’s been speculated that at some point Capcom might return to the first Resident Evil game for yet another remake, but one that mirrors the gameplay found in the Resident Evil 2 remake and following games.

There’s likely a better chance that Resident Evil 0 or Resident Evil 5 gets the remake treatment first but never say never, a remake of the first game would be very cool as well.
I’m not sure how it’d work because most of the fun about the first game was the wacky and disorientating camera angles to keep you on your toes, having an over-the-shoulder camera might take away some of the atmosphere.
