The Red Dead Redemption series is one of Rockstar Games' most popular properties only toppled by the goliath that is Grand Theft Auto.
The Red Dead series began in 2004 with Red Dead Revolver, a linear, but fun game that would lay the foundations of what’s to come in the open-world Wild West franchise. Enter Red Dead Redemption in 2010 followed by Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018. Both titles would garner scores in the high 90s on aggregate websites such as Metacritic, cementing the series as one of the greatest of all time.

There have been various rumours floating around in relation to the Red Dead series. Some reports claim that a remake or remaster of Red Dead Redemption 2 was in development before it was eventually cancelled. Then recently, Rockstar Games parent company, Take-Two Interactive, all but confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 3 is on the way. However, that’s not likely to arrive before GTA VI.

In relation to recent speculation, an interview by the YouTube channel sackchief was shared on Reddit with the voice of John Marston (played by Rob Wiethoff), a character that featured prominently in the two most recent entries in the series, providing his thoughts on the potential of Red Dead Redemption 3.
Without giving too many spoilers away, Wiethoff explained that developing a sequel would be quite difficult without losing an authentic Wild West theme. For example, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel which begins in the year 1899. Whereas the 2010 game was set in the year 1911. So in that respect, it perhaps would not be ideal to set Red Dead Redemption 3 after 1911.
Wiethoff went on to suggest that a prequel to Red Redemption 2 would be an ideal story to tell where we could learn the true events of what transpired in Blackwater and perhaps unravel the origin story of Dutch van der Linde. In fact, having Dutch as the playable protagonist/antagonist could be an exciting prospect indeed.
