It’s incredible that Red Dead Redemption 2 was released five years ago and yet it continues to be one of the best-looking games out there.
Rockstar Games crafted such an exquisitely detailed open world in Red Dead Redemption 2 that players are continuing to find cool hidden details to this day. Just this week, one player spotted a really tragic narrative detail - linking the game to Red Dead Redemption. Another fan worked out how to trick an NPC into committing a crime. Someone else discovered a ‘mind-blowing’ wildlife event that can actually help with finding resources. Today though, we’re here to praise what fans are deeming to be a severely underrated graphical detail.
Take a look at some of our favourite Red Dead Redemption 2 wins and fails below.
A franchise that gives RDR a run for its money is Horizon, with the latest release - Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores - boasting incredible new-gen cloud technology. As reported by GamesRadar, Red Dead Redemption 2 players are arguing that Rockstar also crafted impressive clouds - and they did so five years ago.
Twitter user SynthPotato wrote, “‘Burning Shores lets you fly through 3D clouds, so innovative. This could never be done on the PS4.’ Rockstar Games casually in RDR2 almost five years ago.” It’s true that Red Dead 2 does boast some impressive clouds. What I will say though, is that Red Dead 2 only has one cloud sequence, so it doesn’t exactly offer the free roam that Burning Shores has - which I suppose is the new-gen aspect of the experience.

SynthPotato continued, “What’s crazy is that the clouds in RDR2 are always fully 3D rendered but RDR2 has no flight outside of one mission so you never can see them without mods.” T_Hart82 added, “Easily still one of the best-looking games out there playing through it rn and imo doesn’t even need a next-gen patch cause it holds up so much.” Imagine what a potential Red Dead Redemption 3 could look like.
