Red Dead Redemption 2 players unearth chilling NPC detail after 500 hours

It's a matter of life and death

We’re back with another episode of how the heck did we miss that. Today, we’re discussing a rather chilling NPC “encounter” in Red Dead Redemption.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has so much depth to help bring its characters and world to life. However, all those finishing touches mean we can easily miss interesting details during our exploration.

Has the outlaw life chosen you? It's time to return to Red Dead Redemption 2

Although this latest discovery isn’t as disturbing as one in-game secret that changed the way we looked at the poor sheep of the game, it certainly raises questions.

While Redditor Humourousmonkeyman rode around the Wild West, they weren’t expecting to come across dried out NPC remains.

This nightmarish find wasn’t just a shock for them – there were other players who’d not seen its body (or should we say, what’s left of it) in 500 hours of playing.

As kdaak remarked, “That's crazy I've never seen this in 500 hours.”

The fact we can sink so much time and effort into this Rockstar title and still be surprised all these years later is credit to the developers.

A lot of players have said that the NPCs they kill normally disappear. However, sometimes when an NPC is downed it can remain behind and decay, similar to what the OP shared.

One fan found this out the hard way, “I accidentally killed a horse of mine with dynamite near the final camp and got to see its body decay with every trip I made to and from camp for the rest of my play session.”

Mistakes were made that can’t be undone.

For those curious how far along decomposition in-game can go, another Redditor has a sure-fire way to get the morbid results you seek.

User ThatSkeletonInBlack explained, “It absolutely goes all the way to the skeletal stage. I've done it. Set up a camp somewhere and then kill an NPC and bring them to the camp, drop ‘em off and just keep sleeping, eating and crafting for several days and you'll see.”

No judgement from us if you decide to do this; still, we’ll stick to just seeing this chilling image from afar rather than up close and personal.
