Time, once again, feels disjointed. Yes, the PlayStation 2 really is 23 years old. A console that is held in very high regard by most and is called a "legendary" console by a majority.
The PS2 was home to several amazing franchises and gave birth to classics that we still look to today. When you reel off some of the best games, you can clearly see what a powerhouse it was - GTA San Andreas, ICO, Bully, Final Fantasy X, Ratchet and Clank, God of War, Kingdom Hearts, Timesplitters 2 - the list keeps going.
The PS2 had too many classics to list here
Where better to celebrate and garner opinion than Reddit? A post was created to celebrate the anniversary and plenty of players gathered to in turn make us feel old or shout out a favourite game. "Legendary console. I got mine in 2002 which was pretty cool because by that time a lot of great games were in the greatest hits line including MGS2." says u/Believe0017 who highlights yet another banger.

Another user mentions they had to buy a network adapter for their console because back then it wasn't a standard. Not until the slim console launched anyway. Of course, u/TheStrangeOne45 had to make everyone feel their age saying "Holy S**t. I wasn't even alive until a few months after the PS2 dropped." Thanks for that.
This anniversary allows us to celebrate the console and how it led us forward, particularly when it came to establishing a series. However, PS2 wasn't just a great console because of the names it set up, but also because it was a place to experiment with 'out of the box' ideas. It's up there with the Xbox 360 as an industry defining console that revolutionised what we thought video games could do.
