Reports on Twitter claim that Sony has shipped its final PlayStation 4 consoles, and will no longer deliver the hardware in Japan, bringing an end to the previous generation of gaming.
Sony’s own website notes underneath both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro consoles, “Shipping has ended in Japan.”
Groundbreaking series like The Last of Us emerged on PS4
Of course, it’s no surprise, but it’s still a bittersweet moment. The PlayStation 4 was a legendary console that gave us several games considered to be masterpieces.

It surely won’t be long before the console is removed from other territories around the world and the PlayStation 5 becomes the only supported console for Sony.
Fans on social media are mourning the end of the console, but also celebrating what a great moment in gaming it was.
On Twitter, one fan says, “Well they always promise at least 10 years for each console, and they hit almost 12 for the PS4, so I say it was pretty successful.”
Final sales figures likely won’t emerge for some time, but it’s well over 117 million units, as of last year.

Another fan emotionally writes, “PlayStation 4 I don’t wanna say goodbye yet.”
The PS4 had a long and great life, bringing a wealth of amazing games, as well as plenty of innovation, becoming one of the greatest consoles designed.
All things must come to an end, and while the console will sail off into the sunset, the games will live on, inspiring many memories.
