Sony has been on a bit of a losing streak at the moment, so they’ve opted to bring back one of the PlayStation 5’s most beloved features in a bid to get the folks onside… and it has 100% worked.
I’m imagining the board meeting in my head right now: a bunch of stuffy Sony executives huddled around a table, brainstorming how they’re going to make the fanbase happy after increasing the price of PlayStation Plus and PlayStation 5 consoles.
Then it hits them: they loved the PlayStation 2 theme thingy we took away for no reason, right? Just add that back. They’ll forget all about the price increases we tried to blame on “tariffs” if we do that.

And, yup, wouldn’t ya know it, it’s clearly worked. Sony announced last night that the PlayStation anniversary themes are coming back to PlayStation 5, starting from today, and everyone over on the r/PS5 subreddit is thrilled.
“The themes truly were great. They felt really authentic and not just cobbled together for a cheap thrill,” commented user BroLil.
“I’m glad to see they brought them back. Would have been a shame to see them gone forever.”
“The PS1 boot up sounds make me smile everytime. Happy they brought those back and didn't take forever to do it,” replied user WayneBrody.

Yeah, look… I’m not trying to be a downer on purpose. It’s cool they’re back or whatever.
It just makes me wonder why the hell they even bothered removing them in the first place. Just to get some extra PR for looking like they listen to the fans later on down the line?
Anyway, don’t listen to me. Enjoy your cool PS2 boot up sounds or whatever. Doesn’t mean I’m gonna shell out any extra cash for PlayStation Plus, Sony. I see your tricks.
