PlayStation’s next console generation isn’t quite upon us yet; after all, Sony has only just raised the price of select PlayStation 5 consoles.
That being said, the PlayStation 6 is in development so you should expect to hear occasional tidbits come to light from here on out.
It’s well-known leaker KeplerL2 who has seemingly lifted the lid on the PS6, revealing that a handheld PS6 will be released as well as the regular console(s).

“It can definitely run PS5 games, just not at the same resolution/FPS, mainly due to lower memory bandwidth,” Kepler explained in a thread on NeoGAF, shared to Reddit via Dandelion172.
The leaker went on to suggest that the handheld’s strength is “somewhere between XSS and PS5”, so it’s seemingly more powerful than a PS4.
According to Kepler, the handheld will launch a few months after the mainline PS6, and uses a different SoC (system on a chip).
It sounds as if this handheld will be able to natively run games, unlike the current PlayStation Portable which simply streams them via the PS5.

Even still, fans already have some major concerns.
Before the PS6 arrives, there are plenty more exciting PS5 games on the way, including Ghost of Yōtei.
Reddit user MrYK_ made an excellent point, writing, “Calling it a portable PS6 when it can't run PS6 games is stupid, I say this as we're saying it can just about run PS5 games.”

Of course, we don’t know exactly how Sony will market the product but Kepler is certainly looping it in with the PS6.
“My main concern is that if you have disc copies, you’re basically s**t out of luck unless you rebuy games digitally or they find a system to allow digital downloads for disc copies,” added -Vertex-, raising another important issue.
Admittedly though, it is too early for us all to worry.
There’s plenty of promise in this concept.

“Depending on the price that sounds really good,” commented TEoSaT, while SushiEater343 remarked, “Honestly I'm just happy this might force devs to actually optimise their games now.”
Let’s just see what the future holds.
