After years of waiting, it’s hard to believe that we’re on the final countdown to Starfield. The game is set to release on 6 September - a mere six weeks away.
Starfield is absolutely huge. In fact, there are over 1,000 planets to explore - with at least 10% of these containing signs of life. In the past week, we’ve discovered some of the various factions and branching paths available in the game - plus the fact that you’ll seemingly be able to play as a space samurai, which sounds pretty cool to me. A series of new shorts teased the abilities to decorate your own apartment and pilot your own mech, although we haven’t had a concrete answer on Bethesda on either front. We do know that New Atlantis is the largest city Bethesda has ever created though. And yes, worry not. There will be mod support from day one. After all, this is a Bethesda game.
Take a look at Starfield in action below.
To recap, Todd Howard has already referred to Starfield as a “modder’s paradise,” adding that modding is “part of our DNA here. We’ve been doing it for over 20 years.” Howard told the Kinda Funny Xcast, “We’ve usually been classically single-player. That’s been our community, and people are still modding our games and playing them. So we’re doing a lot of it, and I think one of the things I’ll call out is that it’s not just important for us to enable that, but to participate, right? To make it easy for them, to make this not just a hobby but a career. We’ve had a lot of great success there.”

Considering how massive of a game Starfield is already, I can’t wait to see just how modders choose to expand the game. We know one modding team is already planning a multiplayer component.
Speaking of just how large Starfield is, we already know the game’s base file size - and Xbox Game Pass subscribers can download the game now, so they’re ready to dive in on release day. If you aren’t a completionist, rest assured. Starfield’s main campaign is a very reasonable length.
