The next Halo game is confirmed to be in development in Unreal Engine 5 - and in all likelihood, it’ll be a complete series reboot.
As a life-long Halo fan, I’m optimistic about the next game in the series, whether it is starting from scratch or expanding on what we’ve seen so far as Halo 7 or whatever it wants to call itself.
Personally, I think we need to go back to the beginning, as Halo: Infinite left way too many loose ends and I don’t think the conclusion will be as satisfying as it needs to be.
The promise of Unreal Engine 5 graphics is exciting though, and some of the renders Halo Studios shared alongside the announcement still make me smile months later.

It’s how OG Halo used to look in my head, and if the studio is going down the reboot route, one can only imagine how jaw-droppingly gorgeous Alpha Halo is going to look in the next game.
Fans agreed too, like some in an old Reddit thread who said, “Not gonna lie those renders looked gorgeous.”
Others lamented that it took so long to get to this point though, saying, “The truth is that Halo is basically dead. After the next Halo games are revealed and it's another soft reboot with a confused lore and muddled story, they will have no more excuses on why they can't execute a halfway decent game with a great IP.”
Others are more hopeful though, saying, “Personally excited to get Halo back on track with solid games with great story lines.”

I think we’re in better hands, and I’d love to see the next game be a reboot that retells the story from Halo: Combat Evolved but expands upon it with some story elements from the Halo novels.
The novels have such great moments and characters that it’s a crime they haven’t been utilised more.
