Once upon a time, Halo was the poster child of Xbox.
And while, yes, you’ll still see Master Chief included on promotional graphics from time to time, he’s hardly the figure he once was.
You see, Halo: Infinite didn’t exactly have the strongest launch.

Developers at 343 Industries had more than a few bugs to deal with, but that was hardly the game’s most glaring issue.
Halo: Infinite launched without a co-op campaign, sending player numbers plummeting to an all-time low.
The only saving grace was the assurance that co-op would eventually land as a post-launch update.
And while players can now enjoy online campaign co-op, split screen local co-op was cancelled by devs in September of 2022 to much outcry.

The game is otherwise in a pretty decent state today but with all of the drama behind it plus the cancellation of the underwhelming TV adaptation, fans are eager to usher in a fresh era.
Well, that era may be here before we know it.
ICYMI: Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is Xbox’s big headliner for the remainder of 2024.
While a new Halo instalment hasn’t been formally announced yet, one is believed to be in the works.

In fact, new information has surfaced suggesting that the game entered development back in 2022.
As reported by Twisted Voxel, this information comes courtesy of the LinkedIn profiles of 343’s Ian Slutz, a senior character systems designer, and Justin Dinges, former art director.
In addition to revealing that the game has been in development for at least two years, it can also be gleaned that the project is being created in Unreal Engine 5.
Slutz’s profile reads that he has experience at 343 Industries in “building player systems and assets in Unreal Engine 5”.

For Dinges, he wrote that he “worked on Halo’s next unannounced game” with the role start date listed as April 2022.
Beyond this, we have very little idea about what’s in store but let’s just hope that Halo fans can finally catch a break after several years of disappointment.
