If you’re a sci-fi fan, in particular of Cyberpunk 2077 and Halo, then you’ll want to check out this upcoming shooter.
Ever since I first watched Ridley Scott’s 1982 cult classic movie, Blade Runner, I’ve been obsessed with the sci-fi genre. This is why over the years I’ve formed attachments to the likes of Flashback, Deus Ex and more recently, Stray.
Check out the Defect trailer below!
Even the likes of the Halo spin-off, Halo 3: ODST had Blade Runner cyberpunk-esque elements to an extent with its neon-lit, unnervingly quiet but mesmerising location of New Mombasa in Kenya.

However, perhaps no game nails that sci-fi vibe quite like CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077, a game considered to be one of the best sci-fi titles ever. Well, at least after its messy launch woes were resolved.
So, with that in mind, if you’re after a game that blends the worlds of Cyberpunk 2077 and Halo, then look no further than the Unreal Engine 5-powered, Defect developed and published by the indie studio, emptyvessel.
“Defect is a cyberpunk, squad-based, immersive shooter set in a dystopian world, where AI controls the city with fearsome police forces,” reads the synopsis on Steam. “They battle rogue gang factions in intense 4x4x4x4, multi-objective, multi-finale face-offs featuring futuristic weapons & tech.”
Adding to those Halo vibes, emptyvessel has even hired the services of the legendary Mick Gordan to compose the soundtrack. Some fans in the comments section of the Defect reveal trailer have also felt the vibes of the iconic comic book character, Judge Dredd.

“What happens when you don't give devs the Dredd license? They make their own badass IP,” said tadeogil5787.
“The Dredd vives go hard in this one,” exclaimed emilianovalle95.
At the time of writing, Defect doesn't have a release date or a playable demo on Steam. But judging by its gameplay trailer, it’s certainly a title worth adding to your wishlist.
We’ll keep you posted when a release date for Defect drops, hopefully in the coming months.
