Skyrim player discovers rare event we had no idea was possible

This is awfully embarrassing for the Dragonborn

One The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim player has just managed to trigger an unscripted event of sorts that the community didn’t realise was even possible.

Being evil in Skyrim comes with its perks, but Bethesda had to program in a few downsides… like social embarrassment, for instance.

Over on the r/skyrim subreddit, one user had a very simple question: “Is it normal not to have any guests at your wedding?”

Turns out, poor piemel83 rocked up to the day of their wedding alongside their wife, Ysolda, only to find an empty church.

The priest showed up, but there wasn’t a single NPC in sight to witness their vows. If you’re curious as to how this is even possible, the community had a few ideas.

“If your spouse doesn't have any friends or family, nobody will show up on their side. That's usually the case for hired mercenaries,” commented user Diredr.

“On your side, there's a chance for NPCs you've helped to show up but it's not guaranteed. If you haven't helped a lot of people and you marry Marcurio, for instance, then there's a pretty good chance nobody will show up.”

Other users also theorised that this could be possible if you go out of your way to make everyone in Skyrim hate you, or if you get married too early into the game (before you become friendly with any NPCs).

Bethesda, I hope you're cooking up something good with The Elder Scrolls VI.

The funny thing is, piemel83 doesn’t fit this criteria. They seem to think they’ve been nice, they’re level 67, and a Khajiit caravan is scripted to attend Ysolda’s wedding if you’ve completed the quest Ysolda's Shipment.

So… how did this end up happening? Well, one of their replies does give us a clue.

“Well, my wife Isolda and the priest were there. But no-one else. It was 7am in the morning, maybe a weird time for a wedding,” commented piemel83.

“It was my first wedding but I’m level 67 and helped quite some people along the way! Bit disappointed by the turn-out.”

Oh bless your little cotton socks piemel83, but I’m pretty sure that 7 AM start is what scared any potential guests away.

You could be my best friend, my only child, or even my bride-to-be, and I still wouldn’t be attending a wedding at that time of day. Every NPC in Skyrim was probably fast asleep. I’m surprised the priest even made it.
