Skyrim has just received a jaw-dropping fan-made 8K overhaul and as a result, Tamriel has never looked better.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was originally released in 2011 and since that time, it has been ported to just about every gaming platform imaginable. Bethesda has come under some scrutiny for this but to be fair, fans keep buying it.

Personally, I love this entry in Bethesda’s ever-popular The Elder Scrolls series and full disclosure, I’m guilty of buying Skyrim for every console generation. So I’m guilty as charged.

That being said, it can’t be denied that Skyrim is one of the best fantasy RPGs of all time and even after all these years, fans are still having fun embarking on the epic adventures that Tamriel has to offer.
What’s more, whether it's visual overhauls, gameplay improvements, new story content or bug fixes, one of the main reasons Skyrim remains so active today is largely thanks to its ever-vibrant modding community.
As spotted by DSOgaming, one mod in particular that may be worth your attention gives Skyrim a glorious 8K overhaul and best of all, it’s free to download now via Nexusmods.
Created by Xzandiel, the ‘SkyTex’ remaster mod comes in at a mammoth 112GB, overhauling more than 32,000 textures, and as long as it doesn't kill your PC, it’s more than worth downloading. You can even check out some helpful comparison images on the mod page.

Sadly, due to the nature of this mod overhauling the graphics to such a large extent, while still retaining the original look and feel of Skyrim, this is a PC exclusive and is not compatible with Xbox.
Hopefully, with the continued support of modders, Skyrim should keep us busy until we are finally greeted with the arrival of The Elder Scrolls VI, whenever that may be.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
