PlayStation Plus has had somewhat of a rocky year. Needless to say, the service’s price rise didn’t go over very well with fans.
Several months ago, PlayStation Plus rose in price by around a third across all tiers. While nothing has changed on the essential and extra tiers, new perks were introduced for premium level subscribers. In an attempt to justify the price rise, Sony introduced cloud streaming for premium users - but only if you’re using a PS5 - and the Sony Pictures Core catalogue, a selection of rather lacklustre free films to watch. As many have pointed out though, they subscribe to PlayStation Plus for games, not films. When it comes to games, subscribers across all platforms have slated recent ‘disappointing’ offerings, with premium subscribers saying the tier is no longer with the cost.
You can grab Sable as a part of December’s essential tier free offerings. Take a look at the game in action below.
Reddit user Jackyy205 began the discussion. “PS Plus is not worth it in my opinion,” they wrote. “The thing that made me want premium the most, and I think is for most people, is the classics game catalogue. And … it's really not that great. [...] I think the streaming kinda needs to be fixed. It's really not that bad, but I've had some issues playing games. [...] I actually think the demos are very cool, but we just had demos for free for years so paying for one hour demos is kinda weird.”

They finished by touching on the high prices and adding that they’d much rather pay for the essential or extra tiers. It’s a sentiment echoed by many. Sm211 wrote, “Extra is the best value for money i've found, the game catalogue has saved me a lot of money on games i'd have bought anyway so I feel it's the best value,” while one user said, “I agree most of the old games are trash… gonna go with extra next time. [...] I haven’t been able to use my monthly trials at all, most of those games suck too.”
A diplomatic amillstone commented, “Premium is great if you're new to the PlayStation ecosystem and haven't played some of the older games. Or if you don't want to wait hours for a game you're not sure about to download and just stream it instead. It has its uses but I think it only appeals to a minority of the player base.” Let’s hope PlayStation Plus fares better in 2024.
