Smooth and steamy

Steam gamers have stumbled across a real hidden gem, and the best part is that it's completely free for you to download and play.

This brand-new Steam freebie might not be a AAA hit, but it's already getting plenty of positive reviews from happy gamers.

To be clear, when we say this is free, we mean completely free. No PlayStation Plus-style subscription needed here, just a PC and a Steam account.

The game in question is called The Last Oath.

Developed and published by Final Offer, it's a truly gorgeous side-scrolling exploration adventure game.

Here's the synopsis from Steam: "The Last Oath is a short story based game about a knight that fell in battle fighting for their king. You find yourself with a final task to keep your oath to the king. Complete this task as you find out more about the world by interacting with the environment through text based dialogue."

While not a long game, those who took the time to download it are raving about The Last Oath as a wonderful bite-sized experience.

One review reads: "Short game with a with a great atmosphere! Would recommend as game is free and quick to complete."

Another adds: "Short simple story with amazing pixel art visuals. Hidden gem of a game."

"The graphics and animations are stellar. Would love to see a full game based on this," writes a third.

"It takes about five minutes to experience this game," says another. "You should take a deep breath, download it, and pay attention. It's worth it."

If you need a palette cleanser between big games, I think it's pretty clear The Last Oath should be where you focus your attentions.
