Thanks to a cheeky little leak, we now know that a classic PlayStation 2 title will be making its way to PlayStation Plus at some point in the near future.
Thank you in advance to Push Square's Sammy Barker for the original source (per Gematsu).
It’s that time of the week again folks: the Taiwanese ratings board has spoiled the reveal of yet another upcoming PlayStation release. At this point, they’ve probably indirectly managed to announce more PlayStation games than Sony has this year.

The title in question this time around is the PlayStation 2 kaiju fighting game War of the Monsters… which already has a PlayStation 2 Classic port for the PlayStation 4.
Alright, so, what gives? Why would Sony opt to release a PlayStation 2 game that can already be played on the PlayStation 4 (and therefore the PlayStation 5) again? Is it a remaster? A remake?
Nothing quite so exciting, unfortunately. Sony has been updating and making gradual improvements to their PlayStation 2 emulator over the past year, and they’ve been re-pushing new versions of emulated titles onto the PlayStation Store as a result.
In short, what this means is that you’ll be getting a better version of War of the Monsters on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 hardware.

The new (newer?) version of War of the Monsters will likely come packaged alongside an extended trophy list, and you’ll be able to use the PS5’s rewind feature while you play. Also it’ll almost definitely just run better.
If this is your first time hearing about this game though, I highly suggest you give it a go when the new version of War of the Monsters is available.
It’s a fun, silly little brawler that’s best played with a mate. It would be great if the re-release of the game came packaged alongside online multiplayer, but that’s a big ask for an older game like this. You’ll have to settle for beating up your mates in local splitscreen multiplayer, unfortunately.
