If slow download speeds on your PlayStation 5 are getting you down, there’s a simple setting you can change to double those speeds, and because I’m so nice I’m going to reveal this super-simple-super-secret setting to you.
Change the wi-fi network band. Uh huh, that’s all there is to it. More often than not, the standard band is set at 2.4GHz, which can result in those tediously slow speeds you’ve been dealing with. By quickly changing that network setting on your PS5 to 5GHz can make all the difference, assuming you’re not in some blackhole like void of a wi-fi deadzone, then I can’t help you.
Now you've got better speeds, it's time to check out Marvel's Spider-Man 2!
To make the change even easier, it’s a good rule of thumb to disconnect and forget your current network details, thus allowing you to have a clean slate to work with. All you need to do is head into network settings on your PS5, select your internet connection, then choose to forget it.

Once you’ve done that, it’s just a case of rescanning and re-adding the network again, a process you’ll no doubt be familiar with after having to set up hotspots, use your mate’s wifi, or simply because your provider was down yet again and you had to improvise. After connecting to your network, select ‘options’ to change the frequency band to 5GHz. As much as I’d like to think Xbox and PC fans aren’t all chuckling at PS5 players needing to do this, we all know how competitive the platform war gets.
Of course, while this will prove helpful to many PS players out there, please don’t be annoyed about still having underwhelming PS Plus games to play this month – that’s on Sony, not us. Unfortunately for Sony, these quick fixes aren’t going to remedy the low interest from PS Plus subs. Still, when there’s nothing but lacklustre options and outcomes, we have to take those victories where we can.
