PlayStation 5 users have just discovered a way to save several gigabytes of storage space… or rather, it might be more apt to say that they’ve discovered a way to stop Sony from filling up your SSD with a bunch of unnecessary files.
Over on the r/PS5 subreddit, one user noticed that their PlayStation 5 had accumulated over 2,000 video clips throughout its life.
This is because, unbeknownst to the poster of the thread (and dozens of the commenters), PS5s will save a little 15-second long video every time you earn a trophy.

This is something the PS5 does by default, and you’re not offered any kind of option or prompt to disable the feature when you initially set up your console.
Because it’s pretty easy to accumulate a bunch of easy trophies without even noticing, this could mean that your PS5 is chocked full of hundreds of little video clips.
So, how do you turn it off?
“You can turn it off by going to captures and broadcasts, then captures, then go to the bottom section "auto-captures" and click trophies,” writes the original poster, user wolfgang784.

“You can play around with what (if anything) you want it to save from now on. I changed mine from recording every single achivement to only platinum ones, and screenshots from all trophies to plat+gold only.”
Considering that 2,000 of these clips likely added up to be the size of an entire game, if you’re in the same position then you might be able to free up close to a 100GB worth of space (depending on how long you’ve been using your PlayStation 5 for).
Honestly, I’m not really sure why this is turned on by default. I get that it’s a cool feature but, it’s probably something that Sony should give you the option to turn off when you initialise your console for the first time.
