PlayStation 5 gamers were recently surveyed about how they’d feel if PlayStation games cost $80 in the future, to which 95% of them replied: “Are you out of your mind?”
The survey was held by the PlayStation-focused site Push Square towards the end of last week, following the announcement that some Nintendo Switch 2 titles will retail for £75/$80 at launch.
Out of the 1,500 gamers polled, a mere 5% of PlayStation 5 players stated that they “don’t have a problem” with $80 games becoming the norm.

However, there was a little bit of leeway. 30% of those surveyed revealed that they would “grudgingly” pay a premium for “select titles”.
Although Push Square isn’t directly associated with Sony, it seems the publisher is keen to hear what players think themselves.
As detailed by MP1ST’s James Lara, Sony surveyed select players about the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal over the weekend.
Although the survey didn't directly ask players about a potential price increase, it did indirectly ask how their opinion on "the broader gaming market" had changed.

The answer to the second question in the survey, “When thinking about the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 announcements, in what way has your opinion changed, if at all, about the following”, included three options to choose from: “Nintendo”, “PlayStation”, and "The broader gaming market".
Considering the fallout from Nintendo’s decision to retail games at $80, it’s no surprise that Sony is keen to hear players’ opinions.
Although there assumedly aren’t any plans to drop a PlayStation 5 successor at some point in the next couple of years, rumours of Grand Theft Auto VI retailing for anywhere from $80 to $100 have been rife.
The extremely negative reception to Nintendo’s plans has probably made several publishers rethink any planned decisions to follow suit, at least for the time being.
