Some of the best fantasy RPGs belong to the likes of The Elder Scrolls and The Witcher franchises, so when a game comes along that tempts us with inspirations of both franchises, you can bet it will pique our interest.
However, in recent times, fantastic RPGs such as Baldur's Gate 3 have come along to rattle the cage once dominated by the Bethesda and CD Projekt RED properties. Nonetheless, if you are a fan of Skyrim and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, then you might want to check out this indie title developed and published by The End of the Sun Team, called (checks notes), The End of the Sun.
Check out The End of the Sun trailer below!
“As the ashter, a Slavic sage sorcerer gifted with the ability to travel in time and knowledge about the otherworld, following the trail of the unusual fugitive, you come to a mysterious village. Unfortunately, you cannot find anyone there, at least not in the way you expected to. All you can see around you are burned hearths,” reads the description of the game.

“The End of the Sun is inspired by Slavic mythology and legends. The story presents the mysterious events occurring during the major Slavic festivals in all four seasons, far away from each other in time. The gameplay is a mix of exploration and adventure mystery games with unorthodox riddles to solve, but the storyline comes first here.”
Judging by the gameplay trailer, The End of the Sun looks like it could be a promising indie RPG, despite looking a little rough around the edges. That being said, I would assume that this game is being created by a small team, so it wouldn't be fair to hold it against the mammoth standards set by series such as The Elder Scrolls and The Witcher.
The End of the Sun does not have a release date at the time of writing, but it does intend to be released on Steam for PC at some point later this year. In the meantime, you can download its free playable demo and wishlist it on Steam, so that you’ll be notified when it does launch.
