Reviews for Hogwarts Legacy were very positive, on the whole. With a collection of Metacritic scores all sitting within the 80s (with some slight fluctuation depending on the platform), it’s hard to deny that the Wizarding World RPG did well, as far as most critics were concerned.
The same can't be said of the entire Hogwarts Legacy player base, however. Even before launch, some were upset at the total omission of Quidditch, and once the game was in players’ hands, many expressed that they thought it felt empty. However, on Reddit, some fans believe that those who felt let down by the game may have simply set their expectations too high.
Take a look around Hogsmeade in Hogwarts Legacy below.
“I’ve only been on Reddit for a few days, but my observation of this sub has led me to believe that a large number of people may have simply expected too much from this game,” QuicheLee wrote. “The Wizarding World is exactly that - a world. It’s huge. As I’ve said on a previous post, this is Avalanche’s first attempt at a Wizarding World RPG, so it was never going to be all singing, all dancing. J.K. Rowling couldn’t include all aspects of the world into seven books, so how could you expect Avalanche to include everything in one game?”

Others agree: “We live in a world where every game gets compared to Red Dead Redemption 2. Of course some people expected too much. My expectations were fulfilled and it was better than expected,” Lord_Detleff1 commented. “I agree. People also expected the game to be something it never claimed it was going to be. Also Avalanche was pretty open and honest about what would and wouldn’t be in the game from the start so [I don’t know] why people are still going on about Quidditch and other things like we didn’t already know about its omission from the game,” Magic_mayhem21 added.
At this point, it feels like it’s only a matter of time before Hogwarts Legacy gets a DLC expansion or sequel, so we’ll have to see if whatever comes next is able to meet players’ lofty expectations.
