From the beginning of the game, all the way to the heartbreaking Chapter 6, players were hooked on the activities of Arthur and the gang, so much so that they’re still replaying the game over and over and over again five years later.
Now while there are plenty of scenes that could make someone shed a tear, fans believe one in particular stands above the rest, losing Arthur’s horse.
One Red Dead Redemption 2 player, called Direct_Box_3406 on Reddit, recounted playing the game for the first time, knowing about Arthur’s inevitable fate going in, but had no idea the horse would perish as well.
They said they’d asked their friend “Does the horse die?” several times, only to never get an answer, before finally reaching the dreaded cutscene. After keeping the same horse for the entire game, they said the “look in the horse's face and Arthur’s “thank you” had me on the verge of tears.”

Other fans shared the player’s pain, with many throwing other emotional scenes into the mix, but acknowledging your trusty stead dying was certainly a tear-jerker for sure.
One user said the horse’s death “Ripped my heart right out.”
Another added “My wife was in another room watching tv when I first got to this part. She had to come make sure I was okay.”
Finally one reacted more with outrage rather than upset, saying “First playthrough I did this mission with my favourite irreplaceable horse 'knuckle' … and I said aloud "that's f******* bullshit"

Just another example of how well Rockstar can write an emotional scene, so much so that the memories, and trauma, are still living rent-free in player’s minds several years later.
