The original Resident Evil looks as oppressive, frightening and formidable as we remember it in this gorgeous remake in the style of Resident Evil 2, all thanks to a small group of fans.
Briins Croft, who you'll remember from the Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake, is the mastermind behind this remarkable reimagining of the game that sent shivers down our spines back in 1996. They've been joined by Matt Croft and DarkNemesisUmbrella to bring Spencer Mansion into the 21st century with devastating detail. The lighting, now dingy and dark, casts the corridors into cold shadow and a creature could be rounding the corner at any moment.
Obviously, as this is one of the most iconic horror titles ever, it's important to pay tribute to the original as well as offer a warm welcome to newcomers with up to date graphics and mechanics. Capcom's Resident Evil 2 released in 2019 fulfilled that brief and then some, and Briins Croft and their team are on that same mission. As per Dark Side Of Gaming, the dodge mechanic has been added and a range of weapons are in Chris and Jill's arsenal. The flashlight is available to use whenever the player requires it, and careful inventory management and resourceful knives will give players the edge over enemies.

Best of all, perhaps, is the fact that there is a demo out now. "I'm speechless," said one player in the comments of the YouTube trailer. "I can say just one thing," added another, "Capcom must [learn] with you guys." Clearly it's a smash hit, even as a small slice of the entire remake, and it's downloadable in Spanish, Portuguese and English.
