It’s been rumoured for quite some time now that Metal Gear Solid will soon be getting a PlayStation 5 remake. I’d put the rumours on par with those surrounding last year’s The Last of Us remake. For months, insiders assured fans that it was happening and lo and behold, The Last of Us Part I was indeed eventually confirmed.
There’s a strong appetite for a Metal Gear Solid remake seeing as Konami’s classic title was first released back in 1998. Last month, one MGS producer sent fans into overdrive after he teased that 2023 would be “a year of many announcements,” including something that had been “long-awaited.” That sure sounds a lot like a Metal Gear Solid remake, surely? Blueprint Games have also been dropping teases that have got fans talking. Insiders are once again claiming though that the remake will be announced very soon.
Speaking of Konami, check out the trailer for Silent Hill: Townfall.
As reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, a PS5 remake of Metal Gear Solid will supposedly be revealed before May of this year. This is according to website Areajugones who previously leaked that the remake was in development. The website reports that there’s a “strong” chance we’ll hear something between February and March. It fits with similar rumours that claim that PlayStation is gearing up to announce a third-party title.

Last September, leaker Aesthetic Gamer claimed that MGS 2 and MGS 3 would also be getting remasters. An Unreal Engine 5 video then seemed to hint that a MGS 3 remake may be revealed at The Game Awards, but clearly that didn’t happen.
As always, I’d take all of this with a pinch of salt until something is officially confirmed. Konami have just brought Silent Hill back with a bang so it stands every chance that Metal Gear Solid could be next.
